Dhulikhel's old town occupies the upper part of the hill and is one of the better-preserved Newari settlements outside the Kathmandu Valley core. The tight lanes are lined with traditional brick townhouses — double or triple-storey, with carved wooden windows and overhanging eaves — interspersed with small temples and water-spout shrines. Harisiddhi Temple and the smaller Bhagawati Temple are the ritual anchors of the old quarter. It takes about an hour to wander through thoroughly, and the contrast with the expanding modern town at the base of the hill is striking.
