Gorkha Bazaar

Gorkha Bazaar is the commercial heart of the town, a busy, unpretentious strip of shops, tea stalls, and small restaurants stretched along the main road below the Durbar hill. This is not a tourist bazaar — it serves the local population and the surrounding villages, which makes it genuine in a way that the craft markets of Pokhara and Kathmandu are not. You will find dried goods, hardware, fabrics, and mobile phone shops alongside Nepali daal bhat restaurants that charge very little and expect no fuss.

The bazaar comes alive in the morning as farmers from surrounding villages come to sell produce, and again in the late afternoon as the day cools. It is worth an hour of wandering before or after your visit to the Durbar — both to eat cheaply and to see what an ordinary Nepali hill town looks like when it is not performing for visitors.
