Fire and Ice has been the most consistent Italian restaurant in Kathmandu for many years, an Italian-run establishment serving wood-fired pizza and pasta that genuinely competes with what you would find in a European city. It is something of a Kathmandu institution — trekkers who have been dreaming of pizza for three weeks make a direct line here on return from the mountains.
The restaurant is busier and slightly more expensive than the competition, and there is sometimes a wait for a table. It is worth it. The Margherita is perfect in its simplicity; the pasta carbonara is made with actual guanciale. The ice cream is also excellent.
