Shimla Hill

The highest point in the city with sweeping views of the valley and surrounding hills

A wooded hill on the north-western edge of the city that gives the best panoramic view over Abbottabad and the surrounding valley. The walk up takes about thirty minutes from the main bazaar, on a paved road and then a footpath that climbs through pine forest. At the top there is a small park, a few benches, and a clear view across the valley to the mountains on the far side.

Best in the late afternoon, when the light is good and the heat has gone out of the day. Sunset from the summit is the local routine for many residents. A quiet, free, characteristic Abbottabad experience.

A story
Named in the British period for the famous Indian hill station of Shimla — the original founders saw a resemblance in the wooded ridge above the city.
