Forest Walks

Trails wind up from the lake through pine and deodar forest to a number of small clearings with views back over the valley toward Rawalakot. None of the paths are signposted but they are easy to follow and impossible to get seriously lost on — the road and the lake are always within earshot.

Birdlife along the trails includes Himalayan monal, koklass pheasants, and a range of warblers and thrushes in the cooler months. The forest is at its best in April and May when the rhododendrons are in flower, and again in October when the air is sharp and clear.
