The shrine at Gulhar Sharif, a few kilometres south of Kotli, is one of the principal pilgrimage sites in Azad Kashmir. The dargah (Sufi shrine) marks the resting place of a revered local saint and draws pilgrims from across Pakistan, particularly on the saint's annual urs (death anniversary), when the site fills with devotees, qawwali singers and the general atmosphere of spiritual celebration that characterises major Sufi gatherings on the subcontinent.
Outside the urs, the shrine is a peaceful place to visit — lanterns lit by pilgrims, the smell of rose petals on the tomb, people sitting in quiet prayer. Non-Muslim visitors are generally welcome with appropriate dress and respect. The surrounding area has a few tea stalls and vendors selling religious items.
