Chichawatni Forest

The Chichawatni Forest covers around 9,000 acres on the outskirts of the town, making it the second-largest planted forest in Pakistan after Changa Manga. The forest was established under British colonial rule as part of a programme to create green corridors along the canal-irrigated lands of Punjab. Rows of shisham, eucalyptus, and poplar run through the flat terrain.

It is not a wilderness — more a managed plantation — but it gives welcome shade in the punishing summer heat and provides a quiet place for a walk or a drive away from the dust of the Grand Trunk Road. Locals come here at weekends for picnics. The forest also supports a small population of birds, including parakeets and rollers.
