Bilot Fort is a pre-Islamic hill fort on an elevated position near the Chashma highway, a few kilometres outside D.I. Khan. The structure dates from before the Islamic conquest of the region and represents one of the older surviving archaeological features in the area. Its hilltop position gave commanding views over the Indus floodplain and the approach routes from the mountains, explaining why it was fortified in the first place.
The fort is not extensively excavated or restored, and visiting requires some initiative — there is no formal visitor infrastructure. But for those interested in the deep history of this corner of Pakistan, where the subcontinent's agricultural plains have met the mountain frontier since antiquity, it offers a tangible link to a pre-Mughal past.
The road from D.I. Khan towards the Chashma Barrage passes close to the fort. A local guide or driver familiar with the area will be helpful for finding the site.
