Harappa lies about 25 km southwest of Sahiwal in Punjab and 175 km southwest of Lahore. The easiest approach is by road from Lahore — the journey takes around three hours along the M-3 motorway and then south on the N-5 through Sahiwal.
The nearest railway station is Harappa Railway Station on the Karachi–Lahore main line, but few intercity trains stop here; most travellers get off at Sahiwal Junction and take a taxi or rickshaw the last twenty minutes. Most visitors come on a day trip from Lahore or as part of a longer driving route between Lahore and Multan.
