Tomb of Ghulam Shah Kalhora

The tomb of Ghulam Shah Kalhora, the eighteenth-century ruler who founded Hyderabad and built its fort. The original dome collapsed long ago and was replaced by a flat concrete roof — an architectural disappointment, but the tomb itself remains an important historical site. Kalhora is buried here alongside family members; the complex sits north of the old city, near the Talpur Mir tombs.

Ghulam Shah Kalhora ruled Sindh from 1757 to 1772, establishing Hyderabad as the regional capital after the Indus River shifted course away from the old capital of Khudabad. He is remembered as an effective and relatively enlightened ruler who expanded agriculture through canal construction and developed trade. The site is open; a combined visit with the nearby Talpur Mir tombs is straightforward.
