The annual Sindh Horse and Cattle Show, held in January, is the main event in Jacobabad's calendar and has been running since General Jacob's time in the mid-19th century. The show features horse and camel racing, traditional tent-pegging (a cavalry sport in which riders spear a wooden peg driven into the ground at full gallop), shooting competitions, and displays of traditional Sindhi crafts and livestock.
January is also the only comfortable month to visit Jacobabad — temperatures are in the low 20s°C, the nights are cool, and the show brings a festive atmosphere to a town that is otherwise defined by its isolation and its heat. Tent-pegging in particular is a spectacular sport to watch, rooted directly in the cavalry traditions that Jacob himself cultivated here.
