West of Kamra, where the Grand Trunk Road descends toward Attock, the Indus squeezes through a rocky gorge before spreading out across the plains. This is one of the most dramatic river crossings in Punjab — the water is fast, brown, and powerful, and the gorge walls are steep enough to make the crossing feel like a genuine threshold between two worlds.
The old Attock Bridge (built 1883) still carries rail and road traffic alongside the newer road bridge. Standing on the bridge or watching from the roadside embankment, you can see the point where the Haro River joins the Indus — the two streams briefly visible as different colours before mixing. The setting around Attock Fort directly above makes this one of the more visually impressive stops on the Islamabad-Peshawar route.
