Kohat Bazaar

The town's main market — a working frontier bazaar with dried fruits, spices, and the hardware of the hills

Kohat's bazaar is the heart of the town and the reason traders and farmers from across the surrounding districts come here. It is a working market, not a tourist attraction: stalls selling dried fruits and nuts, spices, cloth, plastic goods, hardware, and the general ironmongery that keeps the farms and workshops of the Kohat district running. There are sections where metalworkers hammer and grind, tea stalls where men sit and talk, and the general organised chaos of a Pashtun market town on a busy morning.

The arms dealers that once made Kohat's bazaar famous across the region have largely relocated to Darra Adam Khel, where the gunmaking trade is concentrated. But the general atmosphere of a frontier market — abrupt, practical, and uninterested in visitors — remains. If you spend time here, sit down somewhere, drink tea, and watch. The bazaar rewards patience more than it rewards walking around with a camera.
