Patriata Chairlift and Cable Car

The Patriata cable car system is the only reason most visitors come to the resort. The journey runs in two stages from Gulehra Gali, about 15 km southeast of Murree. The first leg is an open chairlift that climbs through cedar and pine forest to Patriata Bazaar, a small parade of shacks and tea stalls partway up the ridge. From there a fully enclosed gondola continues to the summit of Patriata Ridge at around 2,300 metres.

The views improve dramatically on the upper section, opening out across the Pir Panjal foothills and, on clear days, north toward the snow-capped peaks of Kashmir. At the top there is a simple restaurant, a children's play area, and a few short walking trails through the forest. Tickets are sold for the chairlift and gondola separately or as a combined return. Queues can be long on summer weekends and during Eid holidays — arrive early or visit on a weekday if possible.

A story
The resort was rebranded 'New Murree' in the 1990s in an ambitious bid to siphon traffic from the older hill station down the road, but locals never adopted the name. Most signs and conversations still use the original Patriata.
