Satpara Lake lies in a deep valley about 10 km south of Skardu, fed by glacial streams from the Deosai Plateau and partly dammed in 2003 for hydropower. The water is a deep, clear blue, with a small island in the middle that can be reached by boat in summer.
The lake is the main scenic destination of the valley and a popular picnic spot for Skardu families on summer weekends. There are simple guesthouses, a few cafés along the shore, and boat hires from a small pier near the dam. The road continues past the lake up to the Deosai Plains, one of the highest plateaux in the world.
