Jenin's covered market is the busiest in the northern West Bank, drawing shoppers from across the governorate and — when the political situation allows — from the Galilee side of the Green Line. The trade here is mostly produce from the surrounding villages: olives, olive oil, citrus, watermelons in summer, and stacks of bread that come out warm through the morning.
Wander early. By mid-morning the alleys around the Fatima Khatun Mosque are packed and the noise is impressive. Most shops close in the afternoon for a long siesta and reopen briefly in the early evening.
