Fatima Khatun Mosque

The Great Mosque of Jenin, properly the Fatima Khatun Mosque, sits at the heart of the old city and is the religious focus of the town. It takes its name from Fatima Khatun, a 16th-century Ottoman patroness who is said to have funded its construction. The current building combines older fabric with substantial Ottoman additions; its minaret is the most prominent landmark of central Jenin.

Visitors can enter outside prayer times if dressed modestly. The courtyard offers a moment of calm a few steps from the noise of the souk, and the muezzin's call here is one of the experiences that gives the day in Jenin its rhythm.
