Getting There

Ramallah is in the West Bank and accessible from Jerusalem, though the crossing involves Israeli military checkpoints whose wait times are unpredictable.

From Jerusalem: The main route is via Qalandia checkpoint, about 8 km north of Jerusalem's city centre. Shared taxis (service) run from the Damascus Gate area in East Jerusalem to Qalandia, then you cross on foot and take another service on the Ramallah side. The whole journey takes 30–60 minutes in normal conditions but can take much longer depending on checkpoint queues.

From Amman: Buses cross via the Allenby/King Hussein Bridge; you will pass through both Jordanian and Israeli border control. Allow a full day for this crossing.

Transport within the West Bank: Service taxis (shared minibuses called sherut or service) connect Ramallah to other West Bank cities including Nablus, Jericho, Bethlehem, and Hebron.

Visitors with Israeli stamps (or stamps from the Jordan crossing) in their passports should be aware of potential complications when traveling between Israel and the Palestinian territories, though in practice most tourists move freely.
