Voco Point is a waterfront suburb at the southern edge of Lae, jutting out into the Huon Gulf. During World War II it served as a major Japanese supply point, and the area still carries traces of that history — rusted equipment and wartime debris surface from time to time. Today it is a residential and light industrial area, but the real draw is the view across the gulf and back toward the Markham River delta.
The point offers one of the few accessible stretches of waterfront in Lae. It is not a beach destination — the water is silty from the river — but walking along the shore in the late afternoon, watching fishing boats come in, gives you a feel for Lae as a working port town that most visitors miss entirely.
