When to Go

Baguio's "summer capital" nickname is misleading to anyone used to a northern hemisphere summer — the city's coolest months are December and January, when nighttime lows drop to 10°C, and its hottest are March to May, when daytime highs reach about 25°C. By Philippine standards even the hot months are pleasant.

The dry season runs November to May; the wet season June to October, with thick fog rolling through the pine valleys for days at a time. February brings the Panagbenga Flower Festival, three weeks of street parades, floral floats, and a massive flower-arrangement at Burnham Park; it is the busiest time of year and accommodation should be booked weeks ahead.

Holy Week (March or April), Christmas and New Year, and the end-of-school summer break in April are also packed. For a quieter visit, come in October just before the dry season — the fog is lifting, the air is crisp, and the strawberries are starting to ripen.
