Ditumabo Falls, nicknamed "Mother Falls," is a powerful waterfall deep in the Sierra Madre forest about 15 kilometres inland from Baler. The approach involves a roughly 45-minute trek along a river, crossing the water multiple times on stepping stones and through knee-deep sections — wear footwear you do not mind getting wet. The falls themselves are impressive: a single drop of about 30 metres into a pool that invites swimming in the cool, clear water.
The trail passes through secondary rainforest and along a rocky river gorge. Early morning is the best time to go — the light in the forest is good, it is cooler, and you have a better chance of having the falls to yourself. Hire a tricycle in Baler to reach the trailhead; the walk from the road adds about 30 minutes each way to the river crossing section.
