The oldest church in Calamba, founded by Franciscans in the late 16th century and rebuilt several times after fires and earthquakes. The current façade dates largely from the 19th century. José Rizal was baptised here on 22 June 1861 — the entry in the parish register is still preserved.
Inside, the church is plain and cool, with thick whitewashed walls and a fine retablo at the altar. It is an active parish; you may catch a Mass or a wedding. The plaza outside, with its huge claypot landmark, is the social heart of central Calamba.
