Lignon Hill, on the border between Daraga and Legazpi, is the closest accessible viewpoint to Mayon Volcano — around 12 kilometres from the crater. A winding road climbs to a small park at the summit with picnic shelters, a zip line, and the panorama people came for: Mayon directly in front of you, the airport runway below, and the city of Legazpi spreading toward the coast.
The hill also houses the Lignon Hill Observatory, run by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, which monitors Mayon's activity. There is a small interpretive display. Best in the early morning before the cloud cover obscures the volcano. Entrance fee around PHP 50.
