Marikina Public Market

The Marikina Public Market is the city's main wet market and a good place to eat cheaply among locals. The market area has a cluster of carinderias — small canteen-style eateries — serving the standard Filipino midday spread: rice, adobo, sinigang, grilled fish, and whatever the cook decided to make that morning. You point at what you want, pay almost nothing, and eat at shared tables while the market goes on around you.

The market is most active in the early morning when the produce and fish stalls are fully stocked. For eating, lunchtime is the best window. It is within walking distance of the Shoe Museum, making it a practical lunch stop for visitors on a budget who are spending the morning in the historic district.
