Chinatown (Uyanguren)

Davao's Chinatown is centred on Uyanguren Street in the downtown area, one of the oldest parts of the city. Chinese traders have been present in Davao since the late 19th century, and the neighbourhood reflects that heritage in its shophouses, temples, and the mix of Filipino-Chinese businesses that line the streets.

The area is worth walking for the food and the atmosphere. Stalls selling fresh durian, Maranao crafts, and dried goods line the sidewalks, and the smaller side streets have the faded grandeur of pre-war shophouses. The Lon Wa Buddhist Temple is nearby, making for a natural pairing on a morning walk through this part of the city.
