Mindoro is a large island south of Luzon in the Philippines, split into two provinces: Oriental Mindoro on the east coast and Occidental Mindoro on the west. Most travellers head straight for the dive sites around Puerto Galera on the northeast tip, particularly Sabang Beach, which has some of the best and most accessible diving in the Philippines.
The island's interior is mountainous and sparsely populated, home to the indigenous Mangyan people. The west coast is much less developed, with offshore islands like Ambulong and Pandan attracting a small number of visitors looking for empty beaches and reef snorkelling well off the beaten track.
