Mount Malindang dominates the centre of Misamis Occidental — a deeply weathered volcanic range whose highest peak (Mt. Malindang itself) reaches 2425 metres. The mountain and the surrounding 53,000 hectares of montane forest form the Mount Malindang Range Natural Park, one of the most biodiverse protected areas in Mindanao, with Philippine eagles, tarsiers, and a long list of endemic plants.
Climbing the mountain is a serious 3- to 4-day expedition through montane and mossy forest, requiring a guide and permits from the protected-area office in Don Victoriano. Day-trip access is easier from the western side at Lake Duminagat, a small caldera lake at about 1300 metres reached by a long drive plus a half-day walk through the forest.
