APEC Sculpture Garden

The APEC Sculpture Garden on the CCP complex grounds holds a collection of public art donated by Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation member nations, installed for the 1996 APEC summit held in Manila. Each of the 21 sculptures represents one APEC member economy, ranging from abstract bronzes to figurative works, grouped along the waterfront near the Cultural Center.

The garden is freely accessible and makes for a pleasant walk along the bayfront. The quality and style of the sculptures varies wildly — this is diplomatic art rather than curated art — but the setting is attractive and the bay views are excellent. The garden connects to the broader waterfront promenade around the CCP complex.

A story
The sculptures were donated by APEC member nations when Manila hosted the 1996 APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting — a summit that brought leaders including Bill Clinton, Jiang Zemin, and various Asian heads of state to the CCP complex. Each of the 18 sculptures represents one member economy, creating an odd mix of artistic styles and cultural references in a single waterfront garden.
