Manila Bay Sunset

Manila Bay sunsets are legitimately among the best urban sunsets in Asia — the bay's westward orientation and the atmospheric conditions created by the warm Philippine air produce spectacular colour most evenings. The best viewing spots in Pasay are the bayfront promenade along the CCP complex and the seaside area near the Entertainment City resorts.

The Roxas Boulevard waterfront, just north in the Manila city proper, is the traditional venue, but the Pasay section of the bay is equally good and usually less crowded. Sunset time varies by season; the best colours tend to come 20–30 minutes after the sun has actually set. Food and drink vendors are available along the waterfront. The area is busy in the evening with families and couples — a very local, very Manila experience.

A story
Manila Bay sunsets have been famous for well over a century — Mark Twain, who visited in 1895, wrote admiringly of them. The bay faces due west, and when the conditions are right (some humidity and atmospheric particulate in the air) the sky turns orange, red, and purple in a display that has survived the city's considerable transformation around it.
