Botolan Sea Turtle Sanctuary

Botolan municipality has some of the most significant sea turtle nesting beaches in Central Luzon. Green sea turtles and olive ridley turtles come ashore to nest between October and February, and the Rama International Beach Resort runs a hatchery programme that monitors nests, relocates eggs at risk of flooding, and releases hatchlings into the sea. Visitors can sometimes participate in releases, which happen at night when the risk from predators is lowest.

The turtle programme is informal — there is no admission gate or ticketed attraction — but stopping at the resort and asking about current activity is the standard approach. The volcanic grey-black beach at Botolan is wilder and less visited than the coves further south, which gives the nesting turtles more undisturbed space. The stretch of coast here also offers good views across the bay toward the Zambales Mountains.
