Gwangju Kimchi Town

Gwangju Kimchi Town is exactly what the name promises: a centre devoted to kimchi as food, craft, industry, and cultural identity. It is a little outside the centre, so it is best for travellers who are already interested in Korean food rather than casual passers-by.

The exhibitions and experience spaces make most sense in Gwangju because Jeolla cooking has such a strong reputation. If you leave Korea thinking of kimchi as one sour cabbage dish, this place will complicate that in a useful way.
