Gyeongnidan-gil

Hillside Itaewon street that pioneered Seoul's craft-beer and global-dining scene, still good for a wander and a drink

Gyeongnidan-gil climbs the hill behind the old military housing near Itaewon, and for a stretch in the 2010s it was the most exciting eating-and-drinking street in Seoul — the place where the city's craft-beer movement took hold and where chefs opened the first wave of serious Mexican, Middle Eastern, and small-plate restaurants in cramped, characterful spaces.

Some of the original buzz has moved on, but the street remains a rewarding wander: independent bottle shops, terrace bars with views back over the city, brunch cafes, and kitchens cooking food from all over the world. It pairs well with a walk up to the Seoul Central Mosque nearby, and it comes alive in the evening when the hill lights up.
