Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium

The Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium is one of cricket's more improbable settings: a 16,800-seat ground built inside a natural bowl in the rocky terrain of the dry zone, ringed by scrub jungle and overlooked by the same granite ridges that house the cave temple. When Sri Lanka plays here, the atmosphere inside the bowl is intense.

The stadium opened in 2002 and has hosted numerous Test matches and ODIs. If there is no match on during your visit, you can usually walk around the outside and get a sense of the setting. The ground itself is not open for casual visits, but the stadium exterior on the Colombo Road is worth a look even from the road.
