The dramatic cleft in the southern mountain wall that gives Ella its reason for being. The land drops nearly 1,000 metres to the plains below, and on clear days you can see all the way to the south coast. The best views are from the town itself and from the viewpoints along the road — no hiking required. Sunset is the prime time.
