The stop is brief but important. Keep the tone respectful; for local families, the disaster is not old history.

The 2004 tsunami devastated this stretch of coast, including the passenger train at nearby Peraliya. The standing Buddha at Tsunami Honganji Vihara is both a memorial and a warning marker, facing the sea that caused the disaster.
