Tsunami Photo Museum Telwatta is another small memorial museum north of Hikkaduwa, close to the area of the train disaster. The photographs are difficult, but they make clear why the tsunami remains central to local memory.
You do not need to visit every memorial, but seeing one of the museums adds necessary context to the coast. It is a sobering counterpoint to Hikkaduwa's surf-school mood.
