Pinnawela is essentially a one-attraction village — almost everyone who comes is here for the elephant orphanage and its twice-daily river bath. A short walk in either direction along the road brings you to a couple of smaller, related sights: the Pinnawala Open Zoo on a hillside above the village, and the Millennium Elephant Foundation a couple of kilometres south, which offers a smaller-scale and somewhat better-regarded encounter with captive elephants.
