Arwad Museum

A small museum near the centre of the island displays finds from archaeological excavations on Arwad and the surrounding seabed — Phoenician pottery, coins from various periods, and fragments of stone carving. The collection is modest but well-chosen, and the context it provides for the ruins elsewhere on the island is worth the brief visit.

Given Syria's recent history, the museum's status can change; it is worth checking locally whether it is open before making it the centrepiece of your visit. When it is functioning, it is one of the few places where you can see physical evidence of Arwad's extraordinary multi-millennium history in one room.
