The Tartus corniche is the city's breathing space, a seafront walk where the Mediterranean is finally visible after the dense streets inland. It is simple rather than elegant, but the light, fishing boats, and evening crowds give it a local rhythm.
Come near sunset if conditions are calm. The view toward Arwad Island is the point, and the walk helps explain why Tartus has always looked outward to the sea as much as inland to Syria.
