Sisters Lake

Sisters Lake is a small, tranquil lake in the forest near the resort village, connected by walking paths to the main trail circuit. The lake is surrounded by trees and the reflections on calm mornings are beautiful. It is a popular stop on the walking routes and tends to draw crowds during peak season, but early morning visits — before the day-trippers arrive — can be genuinely peaceful.

The lake connects to a trail network that takes in the Alishan Museum, the sacred trees area, and various viewpoints. A circular walk taking in Sisters Lake and the main forest trails runs to about 3–4 kilometres and can be completed in two to three hours at a relaxed pace.

A story
The name Sisters Lake (姊妹潭, Zǐmèi Tán) comes from a Tsou Aboriginal legend about two sisters who drowned in the lake — a story with several versions, all involving tragedy and water. The Tsou people are the indigenous inhabitants of the Alishan area, and their oral traditions permeate the local mythology of the mountains and forests.
