Longgang Mosque

Small mosque founded by Yunnan Hui Muslims who settled in Taoyuan after the Chinese Civil War

The Longgang Mosque is a modest, single-storey building in southern Zhongli that serves the local Hui Muslim community and the growing population of Indonesian Muslim workers. The surrounding Longgang neighbourhood retains traces of its original Yunnan-Muslim character: a few halal restaurants serving Yunnan-style noodles and Hui dishes, and a small Yunnan cultural park nearby.

The mosque is open to respectful visitors outside prayer times. The Friday market in front of it, on Hu Ai Street, is a good place to try Yunnan-Hui specialities — rice noodles, mihinkun, and the steamed cured pork that is a local hallmark.

A story
The Longgang Mosque was founded in 1964 by Chinese Muslim soldiers and their families, mostly from Yunnan, who arrived in Taiwan via Burma after the collapse of the Nationalist front in southwestern China. They settled in a cluster of military villages around what became Longgang, in southern Zhongli, and built the mosque on land donated by the government. It is one of only a handful of working mosques in Taiwan.
