Xinming Night Market is held nightly on Xinming Road and is one of the largest of its kind in northern Taiwan outside Taipei itself. It is more locals-and-students than tourist-driven, with a mix of Taiwanese snack stalls — oyster omelettes, popcorn chicken, stinky tofu, bubble tea — and stalls selling clothes, mobile-phone accessories, kitchen gear, and shoes.
The market starts to fill around 6pm and runs to midnight. Weekends are very busy. The hawker stalls turn over fast and quality is generally high; ask locals for current favourites or follow the longest queue. Combine with a stroll through the surrounding lanes for the small Southeast Asian eateries that have moved in over the last 20 years.
