Paper Dome

Shigeru Ban paper-tube church rebuilt in Puli after two major earthquakes.

The Paper Dome is a small but memorable building made from paper tubes, designed by Japanese architect Shigeru Ban as a temporary church after the 1995 Kobe earthquake. After Taiwan's 1999 earthquake, the structure was moved to Taomi village near Puli and rebuilt as a symbol of recovery.

The building itself is simple, but the story gives it weight. The surrounding park makes it an easy, gentle stop, especially if you are interested in design or post-earthquake community projects.
