Yilan Museum of Art is housed in a former Bank of Taiwan building, rebuilt after the Second World War and later turned over to the county. The collection and exhibitions focus on local and Taiwanese artists, so the visit depends on what is showing, but the building gives it a firm sense of place.
It works best as one stop in central Yilan's museum walk. Go in for the art, but also notice how many of the city's cultural spaces reuse old public, school, and industrial buildings rather than starting from scratch.
