Pi Leh Lagoon

Pi Leh Lagoon is a sheltered lagoon on Phi Phi Leh island, enclosed almost entirely by sheer limestone walls that rise 100 metres from the water. The lagoon has no beach — the cliffs go straight down — but the water inside is calm, clear, and an extraordinary shade of emerald green. Longtail boats ease inside and cut the engines, drifting in the sudden quiet while passengers swim off the side.

The lagoon is included in virtually every boat tour of Phi Phi Leh, typically as a stop between Viking Cave and Maya Bay. Swimming here is one of the better experiences on the islands — the enclosed setting, the clear water, and the silence when the boat engine is off create a completely different atmosphere from the crowded beaches of Phi Phi Don.

A story
Pi Leh is a semi-enclosed lagoon on the western side of Phi Phi Leh, completely surrounded by limestone cliffs. The water is so calm and so intensely green that photographs of it look unreal. It is one of those rare places that genuinely looks better in person than in any photo — partly because the scale of the cliffs is impossible to convey in two dimensions.
