Pante Malacca Beach

The main beach on Ko Tarutao — long, empty, backed by casuarinas, with the park HQ at one end.

Pante Malacca is the bay where boats from Pak Bara arrive on Ko Tarutao. A long arc of fine grey-white sand runs for over a kilometre, backed by a thin strip of casuarina pines and the low buildings of the national park headquarters. Outside the brief boat arrivals it is generally almost empty, even in high season — most visitors continue straight on to Ko Lipe rather than stay overnight on Tarutao.

The swimming is gentle on the protected northern bay, and you can walk the full length of the beach in twenty minutes. The path up to Toe-Boo Cliff starts at the southern end and climbs through dipterocarp forest to a viewpoint at about 100 metres — the best place to see sunrise over the bay. Take water; the climb is short but steep and there is no shade at the top.
