Wat Samphran is the temple most travellers remember from photographs: a tall pink cylindrical tower with a huge green-and-red dragon coiling around it from base to roof. It is odd, theatrical, and unmistakably real, the sort of place that makes central Thailand's temple landscape feel far stranger than the standard checklist suggests.
The temple is in Sam Phran district, east of Nakhon Pathom city and often visited from Bangkok by private car or taxi. Treat it as an active religious site rather than a theme attraction: dress modestly, be quiet around worshippers, and expect access to vary. The exterior alone is worth the detour if you enjoy eccentric architecture.
