Ban Nam Chiao

Ban Nam Chiao is a fishing and ecotourism village southwest of Trat, close enough for a half-day trip before or after the islands. Wooden houses, small bridges, mosques, temples, and boat channels sit close together, giving the village more texture than the average roadside stop.

Local tours may include boat rides, hat-making demonstrations, and simple meals. Go with modest expectations and you will probably enjoy it: the charm is in the everyday coastal life, not in a single big sight.

A story
Ban Nam Chiao is known for its mixed Buddhist and Muslim community and for the ngob, a broad palm-leaf hat associated with the village. The appeal is not a staged attraction so much as a living coastal community that has learned how to host visitors without turning itself inside out.
