Phra That Si Surat stands on Khao Tha Phet, a low hill outside the centre of Surat Thani. The stupa, also known as Phra That Khao Tha Phet, was built in Srivijaya style in 1957 and is said to contain a Buddha relic donated by India.
The hill is the main reason to make the detour. From about 210 metres up, you get a broad view over the town and surrounding lowlands, with the stupa adding a small but meaningful religious focus at the top.
