Phra That Dum

Laterite Khmer-style stupa ruin on the edge of Sakon Nakhon

Phra That Dum is a small, rougher counterpoint to the polished central stupa. Built of laterite, it belongs to the older Khmer-influenced layer of the region and still carries fragments of carving around its arches.

The site is not grand, but it is useful. It shows that Sakon Nakhon's religious landscape is not only modern Thai Buddhism; it grew out of older routes, kingdoms, and temple traditions across the Isan plateau.
